The commencement of this year’s pesticide and application‑equipment recommendation program will undoubtedly serve as a powerful lever for achieving this goal.

To fully leverage the advantages of chemical control while mitigating its adverse effects, it is essential to select appropriate pesticide types and formulations, employ suitable application methods, and use pesticides rationally. Chemical control refers to the use of pesticides to manage plant and animal diseases. Pesticides offer significant benefits, including high efficacy, rapid action, ease of use, and favorable economic returns; however, improper application can cause phytotoxicity, lead to poisoning in humans and livestock, harm beneficial microorganisms, and promote the development of resistance in pathogens.

To mitigate the adverse environmental and health impacts of pesticide use in agricultural production, the Anhui Provincial Department of Agriculture has launched the “Capital Chemical Pesticide Reduction Action Plan,” which aims to reduce the city’s total chemical pesticide application from 600 tons in 2014 to 500 tons by 2020. The initiation of this year’s pesticide and equipment‑recommendation program will undoubtedly serve as a powerful mechanism for achieving this goal.

According to reports, this round of pesticide recommendations is guided by the principles of high efficiency, safety, and environmental protection, giving priority to biopesticides as well as chemical pesticides that are highly effective, low in toxicity, and leave minimal residues. Priority is also given to pesticides approved for use in the production of green foods. To encourage farmers to apply pesticides in a scientifically sound and safe manner, gradually reduce the use of chemical pesticides, and safeguard both agricultural product quality and ecological safety, Anhui City officially launched its 2015 program on March 14th to recommend green‑control pesticides and application equipment for crop diseases, pests, weeds, and rodent damage.
